Knox Presbyterian Church – we are a Christian community seeking to grow in knowledge of Jesus Christ and to live our lives as he teaches us.
Out of the Cold (Centre 120)
The Out of the Cold program was initiated by Knox Presbyterian Church in 1995. The purpose of the program is to welcome disadvantaged members of the community into our church and to serve them a freshly cooked hot meal each Saturday night during the cold months, beginning in November and continuing until the end of March. We serve over 2,200 guests a year, with an average of 110 people each week. Since 1995 we have served almost 55,000 meals.
The program involves about 200 volunteers who come from across the city and all walks of life. Many volunteers attend Knox or other churches (Grace Presbyterian, St. Andrews Presbyterian (Ottawa & Kars), St. Stephen’s Presbyterian, Dominion-Chalmers United, St. Theresa’s Catholic), while other volunteers are their family, friends or colleagues, or come from the wider Ottawa community. We rely on donations from Knox members, churches and individuals, as well as fundraisers, with some support from organizations and businesses.
Donations to Out of the Cold go toward the purchase of food and supplies. We need to raise over $10,000 a year to meet these costs
