Description

RPCHC is a communtiy based organiztion that provides a wide range of services to promote the health and wellbeing of people and communities in the Regent Park area of downtown east Toronto - home of oldest and largest public housing development in Canada.  RPCHC was established in 1973. We hold closely to our values of acessibility, community ownership/responsiveness, excellence & innovation, community succession, self-determination, and equity & social justice.
People who are low-income, immigrant or refugee, homeless, living with substance use and/or mental health challenges face significant and systemic barrier to getting health services and to being healthy.  These barriers are economic, social, linguistic, cultural.  RPCHC works with people and communities to overcome those barriers and to lessen their impact.  Our programs focus on promoting eary childhood development (e.g. Parents For Better Beginnings), reducing poverty through education (e.g. Pathways To Education), wholistic interdisciplinary primary health services (e.g. medical, social work, physiotherapy, nutrition, chiropody, well baby), health promotion on a variety of issues and for a range of social and/or cultural communities (e.g. harm reduction, diabetes education, healthy eating during Ramadan, chronic back pain, Homework Club & ESL program), building capacity of people and communities to address the health-impacting issues that are relevant for them (e.g. community gardens, resident engagement, peer-based harm reduction and outreach).   We have targeted programs for peolpe who are homeless or living in precarious housing and people who are non-status.
RPCHC is supported in part by the Toronto Central Local Health Integration Network, Pathways Canada, the Ontario Ministry of Education, and a variety of other funders and donors.  Your generosity enables us to offer important supplements to core programs such as additional childminding, food or field trips for Parents For Better Beginnings, offset non-insured health-related costs (e.g. crutches, socks, etc) for high risk low income clients, support health promotion initiatives in the local community, and - to a limited extent - offset some of our unfunded operational pressures in light of increased costs.  Your support helps us put into action a broad understanding of health and wellbeing.  Thank you.Read more
