Description

St. John’s United Church has been a congregation at the centre of Alliston for more than 150 years, located on the main street downtown.  Our members come from the town and all around the neighbouring farms and communities.  Our beautiful sanctuary with its pipe organ and grand piano has been a focal point for worship and celebrations, and an annual concert series which presents world class choirs and groups.
We have many groups and activities to support our members in their faith and to encourage fellowship and fun.  A Pastoral Care group and Prayer Shawl ministry care for our more vulnerable members.
St. John’s is very involved in the community, both local and beyond.  We support the local Good Shepherd Food Bank with monthly collection days, and the produce from our Community Garden.  We provide the Alliston Out of the Cold program with hot suppers twice monthly and offer other support to locals in difficulty.  Our facility provides meeting space for local Guiding groups and 12-step programs, and other community groups.
We have sponsored several refugee families over several years dating back to the boat people.  More recently we have supported Syrian families who are now thriving in our community.  We have partnered with the Red Sucker Lake reserve in northern Manitoba and have helped with the construction of a new church there.  Recently we provided support to a family who lost their home to fire and have collecting shoes and sports equipment for their school.
