Our Mission

The Mission of the Victoria Scholars is to:

a) promote, develop and advance the performance of male voice choral music and the choristers, organists, singers and other instrumentalists and/or performers of such music.

b) provide performances that educate, create and increase public appreciation and awareness of the beauty and wealth of sacred and secular music for male voice chorus in all periods of music

c) maintain and preserve historical sacred and secular music scores, and provide access to those scores to other choirs and musicians

d) commission new works by Canadian composers
About THE VICTORIA SCHOLARS MEN'S CHORAL ENSEMBLE

The Victoria Scholars was founded in 1993 by graduates of Toronto’s St. Michael’s Choir School and named after Tomàs Luis de Victoria - an outstanding Spanish composer of the Renaissance period. Our repertoire encompasses medieval plainchant, Baroque, Classical and Romantic era works, contemporary pieces in a variety of styles, and newly commissioned pieces.

Each year, we present a 3-concert series in Toronto. We also appear frequently as guests of other performing arts organizations in Toronto. We have completed successful tours to Vancouver, Halifax, the US and the Bahamas.

Past winners of the Canada Council Healey Willan Grand Prize in the CBC Radio National Competition for Amateur Choirs, we have performed with a number of international soloists (such as Russell Braun, Measha Brueggergosman, Norine Burgess, Richard Margison, Robert Pomakov, and Michael Schade) and musical groups (such as the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, the Kiev Chamber Choir, and the Elmer Isler Singers).
