Description

It’s a sad reality that many people involved in the Criminal Justice System have a history of trauma, brain injury, developmental and cognitive issues, addiction, mental health issues and homelessness.
The Toronto Bail Program is a unique non-profit charitable agency whose operation dates from 1979.  It has offices throughout the GTA and in the Central East Region.  It provides pre-trial information and bail supervision services to the courts and accused persons in order to minimize inappropriate pretrial detention.  Accused persons receive dedicated and professional assistance at the earliest point in the justice process, often contributing to rehabilitation.
Clients of the Toronto Bail Program are among the most vulnerable members of our society.  They are often homeless or under-housed with issues such as trauma, addictions, mental illness and/or cognitive and developmental impairment.  They often come from very dysfunctional families.  Many are Indigenous (First Nations, Métis and Inuit).  We work in collaboration with accused persons to identify their needs and fashion a detailed plan of supervision.  We then connect them with the best resources and work in collaboration with partner agencies to support the clients as they make positive changes.
The cost of Bail Verification and Supervision Programs in Ontario is approximately $7.00 per day while detention cost is $235.00 per day.  Given that the Toronto Bail Program has over seventeen hundred clients reporting on any given day, the savings to taxpayers is hundreds of thousands of dollars daily.  In addition, by stabilizing these vulnerable individuals, the entire population benefits as it decreases the likelihood they will re-offend.
When you give to The Toronto Bail Program, 96% of your donation goes directly to helping our most vulnerable community members (clients).  Your donation will help to ensure they have transportation to get to their counselling appointments and culturally appropriate programming.  It will allow us to provide them with basic necessities such as snacks when they are hungry or hats and gloves during the most frigid of winter days and traditional support.  Your generosity will make it possible to provide steel toe boots to that individual who is returning to the workforce or school supplies to the young person returning to school.  It is amazing how a little bit of kindness can help to inspire and motivate a lost and lonely soul to get back on track.
