Our Mission
The Toronto Northern Lights chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society is an internationally recognized creative chorus, dedicated to performance excellence through education, exceptional work ethic and fun. As a registered charity we strive to positively impact our community through regular performances and our music education and community youth outreach efforts.
About Us
Formed in 1998, The Toronto Northern Lights (TNL) is the 2013 International Chorus Champions of the Barbershop Harmony Society. TNL has represented Ontario 15 times at the Barbershop Harmony Society’s International Chorus Competition, winning medals 14 times and earning consecutive silvers from 2001 to 2005. In 2000, the chorus won  the CBC Radio Competition for Amateur Choirs. TNL has also performed in Germany, England, Holland, and China. Most recently,  TNL headed to Europe on a “Gold Medal Tour” that saw them perform in England, Germany, and Sweden.
The chorus attracts members of all ages, backgrounds and employment. Although Toronto based, members also come from Montreal, Ottawa, London, Buffalo and Detroit! TNL’s repertoire ranges from Barbershop to Broadway, Vocal Jazz to Doo-Wop and Gershwin to the Beatles. They have five CDs, including their most recent, “Dare To Dream”, and a two-disc DVD set, “Welcome to the Sandbox”.
How To Find Us
We rehearse from Labour Day to the end of June on Monday nights at the Willowdale Baptist Church from 7 to 10 pm. Our rehearsals are open to the public and anyone interested in visiting will be made most welcome. In early July each year we are often to be found at the International Barbershop Convention (Competition) or travelling to perform at some new and interesting destination around the world.
Membership in TNL is by audition and new members are our lifeblood. We want you to succeed and be a part of this life-changing experience.Read more
