Description

“homelessness is a crisis that a person experiences – it does not define the person."
Unity Project for Relief of Homelessness in London provides housing-outcome focused emergency shelter, supportive housing and in-home housing stability support programming for individuals of all genders age 18+ who are struggling to escape and avoid homelessness.
We go beyond beds and meals. Our job is to stabilize each participant in the moment by meeting their basic needs, to engage and empower participants in their own process toward housing and stability, and to wrap supports around participants for long-term stability in community.
Your gift works to make a participant’s stay at our shelter as comfortable, as productive and as short as possible.
We operate by the values of respect, cooperation, interdependence and compassion.
We get by with the support you give!

* Program Update June 2022
It’s been a tough couple of years and 2022 continues to be a whirlwind as Unity Project itself remains without a home of its own, sheltering at a hotel along with those we continue to serve, and until we can develop a new facility to appropriately support our participants.
In January, we experienced a COVID outbreak at our emergency shelter. Everyone emerged safe and sound only to learn in February that the provincial funding supporting our participants and their pets in the hotel would expire March 31st. We have been working tirelessly to assemble the funds to self-manage the significant additional costs even while navigating our way through a 6th wave and search for a new building.
As of April 1st, our expanded mandate to prioritize people with health issues, couples, and people with pets continues, removing reference or criteria particular to COVID vulnerability. Participant intake continues to be managed through City of London - Homeless Prevention System - Coordinated Access.
Poverty and homelessness continue to grow in our communities. We were in a crisis before the pandemic, now escalated through rising rents, evictions and renovictions, and increased cost of living – with punishingly low social assistance rates punishing the poorest.
Participants continue to benefit from the full suite of COVID protocols for congregate settings including physical distancing in private rooms, screening, monitoring, isolation as required, and use of all PPE.
Most importantly, despite these challenges, there is no pause in our housing-outcome focus. Participants continue to engage in their housing support plans, to obtain housing and to maintain stability with tailored supports.Read more
