Women In Crisis (Algoma) Inc. is a non-profit, community based organization dedicated to the prevention and elimination of violence against women and their children. In working towards this end, Women In Crisis provides temporary emergency shelter and support services 24 hours a day to women who have or are experiencing violence. Women In Crisis works from the principle that every human being has the right to live free of abuse and violence;  that no one has the right to abuse another human being and that no one deserves to be abused. Women in Crisis believes that in a community that has zero tolerance for violence again women and children occurrences will decrease and eventually stop.
Violence against women has many different forms, including physical abuse, sexual assault and emotional abuse. Financial exploitation, verbal abuse and neglect are particularly critical for older women.
