Description
Diwali is one of the major religious festivals in Hinduism, Jainism, and Sikhism, lasting for five days and usually falling in late October and November. In simple terms it celebrates good over evil and light over darkness. Among Hindus the most widespread custom is the lighting of diyas (small earthenware lamps filled with oil) on the night of the new moon to invite the presence of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. Decorate your own clay diya (tea light holder) with brightly colourful patterns and design your own rangoli floor motif. Come celebrate Diwali at Spadina this year. Toronto History Museums delivers a series of programs from November 1, 2023, to January 8, 2024, designed to embrace the spirit of light, love, joy and celebration through light-based public art activations, music, workshops, food, culture, storytelling, and events as part of the Lots of Light programming toronto.ca/lotsoflight
