Our mission is to enhance the lives of Ontarians living with the effects of acquired brain injury (ABI) through education, awareness and support.
About ONTARIO BRAIN INJURY ASSOCIATION
Since 1986, the Ontario Brain Injury Association (OBIA), formerly Ontario Head Injury, has been helping children, youth and adults whose lives have been affected by acquired brain injury (ABI).  Founded as a grassroots organization by families whose children sustained severe brain injuries, OBIA has evolved into a provincial network of affiliated community brain injury associations and support groups.  OBIA is a charitable organization that provides support to individuals through education, awareness and support.
Education: OBIA is the leader in offering educational training for professionals, families and caregivers with its University Certificate Training Programs, Brain Basics Training, and e-Learning.  All of its courses are accredited by the Vocational Rehabilitation Association of Canada.
Awareness:  OBIA is actively involved in awareness activities throughout the year. As June is Brain Injury Awareness Month, OBIA takes the lead in the development of provincial initiatives such as the Drive Only Never Text (D.O.N.T.) campaign.  OBIA is actively involved in provincial and regional committees bringing a voice to ABI.  Acquired brain injury is 15 times more common than spinal cord injury, 30 times more common than breast cancer, and 400 times more common than HIV/AIDS.
