Otonabee Conservation is a locally-focused, community-based environmental agency that protects, restores, and manages the natural resources within the Otonabee Region watershed.
We are raising funds to revitalize the Jackson Creek Trail!
We own 4,000 hectares of Conservation Lands in the Otonabee Region watershed? Some of these lands can be accessed for recreation.
More than ever, people are accessing our lands and trails to get exercise, boost mental health, relieve stress, and spend quality time with family.
The Jackson Creek Trail (JCT) is a beloved trail in the heart of Peterborough. Residents enjoy the trail’s proximity to home, easy access from both sides of Jackson Creek, and the feeling of being completely immersed in nature while in the City.
During the pandemic, the JCT is seeing an increase in traffic as many residents seek the solace of nature nearby, and have taken up hobbies such as birdwatching, hiking, dog walking, biking, and Nordic skiing.
Peterborough is also growing! Many new homes are being built along the Jackson Creek corridor bringing an increase in trail users and commuters. The area will see 6 new subdivisions and 3,400 new homes that are being built adjacent to the JCT, which means there will be over 8,000 more people living within walking distance to the trail.
The beloved JCT needs some TLC so that everyone can continue to safely access the trail and upgrade the trail for increasing numbers of visitors.
The 'Your Metres Matter' fundraising campaign is raising funds to resurface and repair points of erosion along the Jackson Creek Trail, one metre at a time! Each $50 donation will help us revitalize one metre of trail. Help us fix the full 4,500 metres of the Jackson Creek Trail so that it is accessible and safe for all trail users.
For donating to the Your Metres Matter campaign ($50+ donation), you will receive a tax receipt, photo card, sticker, and a commemorative JCT badge to wear proudly while visiting the trail. When you donate $500+ dollars (or 10+ metres of trail) you will be recognized on a new trailhead sign along the JCT. (donations of $20-$49 will receive a tax receipt, photo card, and sticker).Read more
