Penny Appeal Canada In A Nutshell
Penny Appeal Canada is a relief and development organization with a really BIG vision for the world. We want to create the best societies we can and break the cycles of need and poverty for good. That’s a huge goal, so we have become adept at turning small change into a BIG DIFFERENCE.
We have 6 pillar funds that we carry out emergency, short, and long term sustainable projects in:
1. Feed Our World
Food Programming that meets the immediate emergent needs as well as long term sustainable agricultural projects, including income generation.
2. Orphan Kind
We focus on building a safe, supporting community for Orphans in Africa and Asia by providing them with an education, daily meals, clothes, healthcare, recreational activities, psychosocial support amongst many essential needs.
3. Thirst Relief
Our thirst relief program seeks to bring fresh clean water access to some of the most impoverished areas in the world to help eradicate the spread of water and sanitation borne diseases. Water projects including wells, rain water harvesting systems, and solar powered water centres.
4. Education First
We support children, families, communities, and societies around the world and at home in Canada opportunities to learn.
5. Emergency Response
Providing immediate relief and aid to families affected by war, famine, and natural disasters.
6. Zakat
With Penny Appeal Canada's 100% Zakat policy you can be sure that you are maximizing your religious obligation. Our 100% Zakat policy includes a separate interest free bank account which our Zakat is held in. Penny Appeal Canada takes 0% Admin Fee on Zakat donations. We ensure that projects and beneficiaries are both Zakat eligible. We allow the implementing partner on the ground take a maximum of 10% Admin as they are one of the eight categories outlined in the Qur'an allowed to receive Zakat. We provide quarterly program reports so you know where your Zakat is being spent.
7. At Home
Penny Appeal Canada spends 50% of our annual donations right here at home in Canada. We support local grass root organizations with grant funding to carry out impactful programs for the communities they serve. This includes mental health counselling, women's shelter services, serving the homeless population, supporting the first ever Muslim Foster Agency, providing services to children's with disabilities, and much more. We also implement our own relief and development programs across Canada.
Our Vision
To see a world where our organization no longer exists.
We want to achieve this by taking a holistic program approach to the communities we serve, by providing long term sustainable solutions in the areas of food, water, and education. When we focus on quality over quantity, we can create communities that are self-sustainable and lift others around them out of poverty.
3 Year Strategic Plan

As Penny Appeal Canada initiates this three year strategic plan, our beneficiaries stay at the centre of everything we do. This hasn’t been an easy year as the COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc both locally and internationally. Amidst this fractured world, it is easy to lose hope. Yet, it is hope that we must cling too if we are to continue working towards a better world for ourselves and future generations. It is hope that drives us to sponsor more children, save more lives, provide more clean water and do the dozens of other programs we carry out. It is hope that ensures every orphan, girl, widow, and vulnerable person has their basic rights fulfilled. Hope will continue to be the torch that lights the way
