Mission
The Giant’s Rib Escarpment Education Network (GREEN) is a not-for-profit organization created to tell the story of the Niagara Escarpment; to promote uses that will ensure retention of its natural state for future generations. We offer public educational lectures and tours to interpret the Niagara Escarpment through geographical, geological, historical, agricultural, and cultural experiences.
THE GIANT'S RIB ESCARPMENT EDUCATION NETWORK (GREEN)
GREEN is the leading organization in the Province of Ontario for public education and outreach on the Niagara Escarpment World Biosphere Reserve.
The "Giant's Rib" is said to have been the name our First Nations gave to the Niagara Escarpment. The Giant's Rib Discovery Centre was the name selected for a one-of a kind destination for interpretation of the Niagara Escarpment, one of Canada's 16 UNESCO World Biosphere Reserves.
The original concept plan had community support and funding for a location near Waterdown. Delays in planning and changes in government stalled the project in the early 2000's.
The concept of the Centre as a destination still exists as we continue to seek a suitable location for a permanent home, while our public education programs have run since 2006 out of the Giant's Rib Discovery Centre (GRDC) in the Dundas Valley Conservation Area.
Your donations support our public education programs, centre improvements and expansion, and awareness of the need for protection of this unique and magnificent natural feature of Ontario's landscape. Read more
