Founded in 2005, The Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival (TOsketchfest) is Toronto's longest-running comedy festival, and Canada's comedy incubator.
TOsketchfest's mandate is to support and develop Canadian comedic voices: by producing festivals and comedy series that showcase Canadian comedic work; by offering free or low-cost workshops, panels and industry networking opportunities; and by direct funding for comedy projects.
The performing arts ecosystem in Canada continues to lag behind in recognizing comedy as a performing arts discipline – deserving of its own programs and supports. Instead comedy creators, writers, performers and directors must compete in programs designed without their unique talents, perspectives or challenges in mind.
These artists need access to stages, financial support for their stories and projects, and opportunities to connect professionally and artistically with decisionmakers and contemporaries – just the same as artists in dance, theatre and opera. That's where TOsketchfest comes in.
